Leader of the opposition party, United Democratic Party has promised Gambians to pay council subventions if he’s elected into office in 2021 December presidential election.
Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, who has served as Gambian vice-president under President Adama Barrow before he was relieved of his position was speaking to vendors at Serrekunda market as he paid them an unannounced visit to see their conditions.
The words of promise of Honorable Darboe who was once a Foreign Minister come up as the country prepares to go to poll in December, as Gambians will elect their new president to lead the country for the next five years.
“Yesterday, I visited the Serekunda Market. I am committed to Pay Council Subventions when I assume office to enable them to invest in markets. Invest in private properties around markets for expansion projects and build better market infrastructure,” Lawyer Ousanou Darboe told people of the market.
He urged for unity among people and called on them to embrace peace, saying “I asked all vendors to continue encouraging diversity of tribes, cultures, religions in the markets as a symbol of a greater harmonious society”
Meanwhile, one of his twitter followers said: “What a great speech from both yourself and Mayor Bensouda. Inshallah Gambians will deliver well, well in December 4th for a better Gambia.”
“I see what you have done for me, Alhamdoulilah! One more push rek, In Shaa Allah, Gambia ammndamLordeffreknonu la nak,” another of his followers said.
Earlier, he promised to invest 10% of his administration budget to agriculture in order to enable the country attain its longstanding self-food sufficiency. He said his government will massively invest in agriculture and stop rice importation within ten years period.
United Democratic Party, one of the biggest opposition parties of the country, has been doing its underground campaign, as its members are hopeful to unseat The Gambian President Adama Barrow.
