Lack of Jola interpreter hampers Bubacarr Drammeh Murder case

Lack of Jola interpreter has hampered proceeding of a murder case that involved Babucarr Drammeh who is standing trial for been accused of killing Buba Jammeh, a university student, during a land dispute between Kombo Berending Gunjur in 2019.

When the case was called at the Kanifing High Court, Kanifing before Justice Alexander Osei Tutu on 8th July, 2021 the accused persons were present but lack of interpreter in Jola language warranted the presiding judge to again adjourned the case to 27th July, 2021 for hearing.

However it could be recalled that the accused person Babucarr Drammeh is answerable to seven counts of offence which include murder and attempted murder.

On count one and two, his particular of offence stated that Babucarr Drammeh on count on or about the 16th day of March at Berending village, Kombo South District West Coast Region with malice aforethought, caused the death of Buba Jammeh by shooting him with a gun. Also the statement stated that he attempted unlawfully to cause the death of Ebrima Darboe by shooting him with a gun.

On three couns, on same day and place, he (Babucarr) attempted unlawfully to cause the death of Ebrima Colley by aiming and shooting him with a gun, and also,

The count four, assault causing actual bodily harm, Mamadi Ceesay,Abdoulie Jarju, Muhammed Mbye, Abdoulie Sanyang and other at large on or about the 16th day of March 2019 at Berending village ,Kombo South District in the West coast Region  they  jointly and unlawfully  assaulted Ebrima Darboe by beating him all over his body and causing injuries ,thereby committed an offence.

And the count five, assault causing actual bodily harm, according to the narration, Madi  Ceesay ,Abdoulie Mbye , Abdoulie Sanyang and the others at large on the said date and place they jointly and unlawfully assaulted Ebrima Darboe by beating him all over his body and causing injuries, while count six, assault causing bodily harm, the particular states that Mamadi Ceesay, Abdoulie Jarju, Aboodulie Sanyang and others at large on or about the 16th day of March 2019 at Berending village ,Kombo North District in the west Region jointly and unlawfully assaulted Kunfa Jatta by beating him all over his body  and causing him with injuries.

The last, which is the seventh count –  ,thereby committed an offence.

And the last count seven, also assault causing actual bodily harm, disclosed that Mamadi Ceesay ,Abdoulie Jarju ,Muhammed Mbye, Abdoulie Sanyang and others at large on the said place and date unlawfully assaulted Momodou  Manneh by beating him all over his body and causing him injuries ,thereby committed an offence,”
