Dr Ceesay critisises government over mass gathering amid rise in Covid-19 cases

One among the leaders of the opposition parties, Dr Ismaila Ceesay of the Citizens’ Alliance has critisised the government for allowing mass gathering including political rallies and musical events amid surge in coronavirus cases in the country, which he described as ‘reckless’ act.

Dr Ceesay didn’t stop only on government as he also lashed out at political parties holding rallies during this period of rise in the numbers of coronavirus cases. But, he critically blamed the government for being irresponsible to allow such mass gatherings to hold as the country battle third wave of the virus.

Dr Ismaila Ceesay’s criticism comes as the country is being hit by a third wave of coronavirus which prompted the government to re-imposed some restrictions in a bid to help avoid further spread of the disease in the country.

“Amid an exponential surge in cases of the more infectious & lethal delta variant, it is reckless for any political party to organise a rally. We have a responsibility to protect young children and promote public safety,” Dr Ceesay said on his twitter page.

He added: “With an increase of the more transmissible and lethal delta variant and with only 0.5% of the population fully vaccinated, it is irresponsible for government to allow musical events and political rallies. Public health safety must not be compromised under any circumstances.”

He therefore urged people to get their vaccines to safe themselves and others from contracting the virus to help the country get rid of the disease.

“COVID-19 cases are rising and the delta variant has been identified. There has been an increase in hospitalizations and majority is unvaccinated. I have taken my COVID-19 vaccination. If you haven’t, please do so as soon as you can to save your life and that of others,” he advised.
