Sanna Dahaba, Executive Director of National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has disclosed his office will disburse over eight million dalasis to victims of 7th July, windstorms, adding that one thousand and seventy one (1071) households will benefit from the relief package.
He made this disclosure in an exclusive interview at his office along Baobab Road at Kanifing South, where he also disclosed that the disbursement of the funds will kick start today Wednesday July 28, 2021.
According to him, the eight million and thirty two thousand – five hundred dalasis (D8, 032, 500) relief package will be shared among one thousand and seventy one (1,071) households, revealing that each household will go home with seven thousand and five hundred dalasi (D7, 500).
Director Dahaba, further revealed that payment center’s will be opens at diverse places in both West Coast and North Bank Regions, adding that payments will be made at Jamisa, Governor’s office, Mandinaring, Old Yundum, Gungur, Brikama SSP football field, Mandinaba, Sanyang and Brikama Primary School all in West Cost.
He added that payments for North Bank Region will takes place in Fass Saho, Kuntaya, Essau, Njaba Kunda and Kerewan.
He pointed out that the intervention is necessitated by the despicable condition of the 7th July, windstorm victims, stressing that Gambia government is committed to ameliorating the pain and suffering of the victims most of whom are receiving temporary shelters from families, friends and neighbors.
“Gambia government places humanitarian responses in the never center of the National Development Plan (NDP), and the intervention is a demonstration of the commitment of the government and leadership in supporting the vulnerable communities who were affected by the recent windstorm.
The victims that have been affected in North Bank and West Coast Region’s will be the first recipients of the disbursement, and plans are afoot to mobilise and disburse more funding to victims of natural disaster across the length and breadth of the country,” Executive Director Dahaba pointed out.
He called on beneficiaries to put the disbursement into good use in a bit to addressing the accommodation and livelihood means of their families, while assuring others that NDMA and partners are working round the clock to reaching out to them.
