KM Mayoral aspirant who wanted to contest under the ticket of United Democratic Party has hit out at top brass of the Kanfing Municipal Council over municipality governance.
Mustapha Touray who was speaking to Star FM denounced what he called payment on garbage collected by the council saying the act has turned the towns to be dirtier.
“Let’s say the truth, the town is dirty,” he said, but suggested that “if he had made a house basis where every house will pay D50 every month, believe me you will not see garbage on the street.”
In his words he said “I will be a poor man as I have five kids and every kid I have to give each D25 or D50 and the garbage collected in my home the council asks me to pay D10 on each bag. I will rather wait until night and throw it away,” he added.
He continued: “Even the D10 charges on a bag of a garbage should be stopped and give everyone a card with a serial number that the person can use to go and pay to the bank the amount you have to pay. And if anyone failed to pay let such be fined.”
Meanwhile, he suggested alternatively that had it been he is in the council, he will let all vehicles pay D5 dalasi that’s those that are entering Banjul or Kombo because they are the one that should construct the highways hence they are the ones plying them (the highways.)
According to him, he said Mayor Bensouda could have tackled the corruption scandal that hit his office by earlier engagement with the people involved in it.
He preached for peace and stability ahead of December presidential election and urged Gambians to be tolerant and know that it is politics which should not divide the nation for any reason.
