National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has commenced a five days unconditional cash transfer to 455 households affected by windstorm in North Bank Region (NBR).
Each household will receive total amount of D2200 for a period of three months that is hoped to help beneficiaries to fix houses and provide food items for them.
Speaking in Kuntair Babucar Fofana Program Officer of NDMA noted that government through the agency has commenced cash transfer to each affected households and the package will last for 3 months. He noted that the recent windstorm that hits NBR has shocked the agency and government and plan are in progress to respond to affected families.
Chief Alpha Mariam Khan of Jokadou thanked President Barrow for his visit to disaster families and personal donation of D2million to disaster affected families in NBR. He noted that the support would strengthen respond and provide opportunity for families to resettle.
Lamin Saidy Regional Disaster Management Coordinator for NBR said the support targets 53 households in Jokadou and data collection are ongoing to ensure accurate information are gathered.
Awa Gaye ward councilor for Kerr Jarja ward said cash transfer would contribute to address Gender Based Violence and strengthen respond strategy. She uses the moment to call on families to be patient as government and other humanitarian organisations are mobilising resources to assist victims.
Mayoro Leigh Alkalo of Jamagen, Kebba Sowe of Kisimajaw and Awa Keita of Jamagen thanked government for the foresight and described the intervention as timely, noting that it would allow farmers to concentrate on farming.
