Gambians pay tribute to army Lt. Colonel Pierre J Mendy

Hundreds of Gambians on social media have been paying tribute to one of the nation’s highly respected army officer Lt. Colonel Pierre J Mendy who died on Monday, 2nd August, 2021. His cause of death is yet to known.

A statement from The Gambia Armed Forces said: “The Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Commander Gambia National Army, Commander Gambia Navy, Commander Republican National Guards, General Officers, members of Sister Security Services, Soldiers and Ratings of the Gambia Armed Forces regret to announce the untimely demise of Lieutenant Colonel Pierre J Mendy.”

“This sad event occurred in the early hours of Monday 2nd August 2021. Before his demise, he was the Commanding Officer 1 Infantry Battalion of the Gambia National Army. This sad news is extended to His Excellency the President Adama Barrow, the Honourable Minister of Defence and Cabinet Ministers, his family members, relatives and friends in The Gambia and abroad. Funeral arrangements will be communicated later. While asking God to grant his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, May his soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.

Meanwhile Ousman Joof said on his social media: “Sad news. May the Omnipotent grant him Jannatul-firdawsi and bestow on his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Lamin Conteh added: “May his soul rest in peace and Allah subhana watala grant him the highest place in jannah and to all the departed souls.”

“Indeed, you have contributed your quota to God and country in no small measure. May the good lord grant you a peaceful rest. Rest on Senior,” Abdullah Mboob said.
