Our Money Is What We Need! – KMC Staff Chant

By Mama A. Touray

It was a moment of truth and dissatisfaction between the staffs of the Kanifing Municipal Council and the suspended CEO of Kanifing Municipality as members of PIU were acting under instruction of the  Honorable Minister of Local Government and Lands who had instructed them to reinstall the suspended CEO who is alleged to have siphoned D12 million from the council back to office.

Visiting the rowdy premises of the council on Monday, as the staffs were struggling out to deny the CEO entering into the council, so they were chanting ‘our money is what we need.’

Spaeking to member s of the press as concerning this,  Isatou Faal PR Manager of Kanifing Municipal Council said ”I can’t tell you how much the KMC is losing today, I’m not part of the revenue collectors department but what I’m sure is that today any department you go most of the staffs are not working because they have questions to ask that need to be answered.”

The PR Manager explained that ”If something happen and you know that your hands are clean just be yourself and allow the investigation to go without your interference. They sent five of them on a suspension including Bakary Jawo, CEO, Babucarr Sanyang , Kaba Bass, and  Director of Fiannce,” saying since they were put on suspension she noted it is only two among them which include the CEO that have been engaging in pushing and pulling “if they are  sure that their hands are cleans then why only both of them comes here.” she stressed.

Following the incident since day one it unfolded, she said, people will come to know that there were many revelations known “which were never known to us especially me as the PR, I never know and I have been questioning the Staff Welfare Association that if you are deducting from our salary every month where are you taking that money to. When you need help from the association you will be told – there is no money.”

Saikou Bah Kinteh one of the staff s lamented that ”they looted us because they know that majority of us are illiterates we are have been side lined this matter should be addressed. The money they stole should be returned because there were some here before that are now diseased their money are still here.”

Adding that there is no politician paying him here and there is no politician that helps him signed that he want to be working at KMC “so we will fight the matter up to the last minute.”

Speaking on behalf of the KMC women, Isatou Fatty said Sainabou Martin has put shame upon all the female saying a woman of female staff will involve in siphoning huge amount as this while men are not aware has made women in this council ashamed.
