“Do not allow to be used as tools” GDC youth president tells security people

Momodou MC Cham, national youth president of Gambia Democratic Congress has offered a piece of advice to men and women in uniform to always ensure in executing their duties within the circle of the law and refused to be used by anyone to commit wrong.

Mr Cham in a written letter pointed out that the past events in which the security men and women were left alone by top so-called elite who ordered them to execute those laws.

“Dear Men and Women in uniform, I’m calling on all of you especially the police to take it easy and learn from the past. You will all bear with me that as recently as June 2018 three people were killed by Paramilitary personnel in Faraba during confrontations on which escalated to conflicts over sand mining. The police command pulls their heads and threw the officers under the bus. The rest is history. Today, we saw a similar head pull when paramilitary were deployed at the KMC premises. The Executive denied given any orders even though the men claimed they received Executive orders,” he said.

He added: “Imagine what would have been said should paramilitary have assaulted anyone; they would have been solely responsible for that crime. No one can dispute how much sacrifice you are offering to this lovely country, yet, over and over when there is a mess, you do not get the support of your superiors. This is lesson you must always learn. Do not allow to be used as tools.

“My advice to all of you is, exercise your duties within lawful orders. Unlawful orders will put you in serious mess and your superiors wouldn’t take responsibility. Watch your backs and act reasonable and responsibly.”

“You remain our good brothers and sisters. We are proud of you and we celebrate you at all times. Continue to defend the constitution not any particular individual interest. By doing so, Gambia will win. Yours in the service of Nation Building,” he added.
