By Binta Jaiteh

Magistrate Muhammed Krubally, chairman of the Gambia Federation for Disabled has urged stakeholders to respect and support popularization of the Disability Bill.

“Now we feel the most guaranteed legislature apart from the constitution that ensures respect and protection of all our fundamental rights “he said in an interview on Tuesday at election reporting training where at least 25 Gambian journalists participated.

“This is what the federation is doing and also expected of all duty bearers to ensure that this bill is really respected at all stages. As laws exist everyone is expected to respect the existing laws and no excuse or cause to depart from those particular laws,” he added.

“Since it has become a law individual (Person with disabilities) should have access to article (8) of the legislation itself. I think individuals or even the authorities should be ready for law suit for the court to make an order for the respect of that law.So, my worry is still with the implementation of section (11) of the act that talks about the composition of the disable advisory committee,” he stated.

According to him, “The constitution of the federation states that GFD is a non-political organization, non-profitable federation, so therefore (55) of the act that enjoins person with disabilities to be supported to take part in political and public affairs,” he continued.

However, he called attention of the participant to the fact that “the president (Adama Barrow) will soon engage media houses to engage the MPs, Non-governmental organization and partners in how this bill can be popularize and further sensitize and protect the bill.”

for the meantime, the bill has been unanimously debated and passed by the MP’s then accent to the president.
