The Gambia Transport Union has blamed the government for neglecting its report which it said was collated during their nationwide tour aimed to assessing its constraints in a bid to finding a way to addressing those issues.
The union’s president Omar Ceesay told reporters in Banjul after a tedious countrywide tour which cost them huge amount of money and time that the government didn’t honour their efforts by looking in to their report.
”As a government as an authority, the poor people put their money together paid their money put their efforts, energy, round the country leave their family and stay awake bring their ideas and you don’t want to take that idea you don’t respect it that is a big insult to us’.
“We went for tour and gave our report, talk with the National Assembly select committee because we feel that they are necessary stakeholders in this an as a lawmaker we talk with them we went and face them take the report and we explain and what did they think as a human being as an operator that discussions were nice but so unfortunate, they did not call us on a meeting so how do we think that country can move forward,” he asked.
”Someone left all what he was doing use his energy, resource and conduct research gave you so that you can discuss about it and you promised to call necessary stakeholders to discuss about it up to date two to three months now they did not do anything they did not take any reaction towards it,” he added.
The unsatisfied president said “we are the one who put them there but to be frank they did not give us what we put them there for,” he lambasted the National Assembly select committee.
”Let me make this clear we are not politicians we are unionist our mandate is to protect the welfare of the commercial drivers and we will do that to the best of our abilities anyhow without looking at anyone and we are not looking at any political party,” he divulged without mincing words.
