By Mama A. Touray

Top lawyer and team have declared their unflinching support to the leader of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) and its leader as choice for the upcoming 4th December presidential election.

Lawyer Assan Martin who was speaking during an organized news conference held at YMC on Saturday, declared that: “I am hereby, announcing to friends, family, the media, well-wishers and general public that I and my team have our commitment to this pronouncement which is a constitutional giving rights and we wish to exercise it as a team.”

”We team Assan Martin are in support of Honourable Mamma Kandeh’s agenda and manifesto to bring mature and smart leadership to the Gambian people and we are also endorsing his candidature for the December presidential election,” he added.

He said he and team will engage and support efforts to reach out to other political parties and stakeholders such as independent candidates to work in partnership for a National Unity Government.

According to him, they believe that Honourable Mamma Kandeh as a working partner with other political parties or independents they may help to save the sovereignty and give a leader who can unify the Gambia beyond the current polarization the country is experiencing with President Barrow’s administration.

”To save what is left of this country it is important to rub shoulders and bring back hope to restore aspiration in the heart of Gambians,” he said

Martin while addressing the media said ”Again if you recall since the democratic change in 2016, several new parties have emerged into the political scene, which change the political landscape prior to 2016 election.

Meanwhile, he said most Gambians are worried as how the opposition parties can work together with the common goal to unseat the current government that have failed on its mandate to deliver on the reforms and to rebuild the failing institutions to deal with the 21st century challenges.

”In today’s Gambia, we are witnessing a government that lacks vision and direction as to how to move this country to the next level.”
