The Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray has assured that if the country manages its produce properly the Gambia will get out of poverty.
She made this remark on Tuesday during the launching of the National Export strategy 2021-2025 organized by The Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA).
“If we manage our produce properly, we will be able to get out of poverty because the countries daily produce are human needs,” he said.
She added: “The AFACA has created that opportunity for the Gambia, and Gambians are their partners (that) must take advantage of the opportunity it provides. This is the second NES and we have learned, we have accepted, we need to make things happen. They said get it done but I said let it happen. It has to happen. We have intelligent institutions we have vibrant institutions and we are good at framing issues but let us be good in making things happen so that it benefits all.”
She therefore extended her governments appreciation and called for commonwealth secretarial to please convey the appreciation of the government of the Gambia for the godwill message confirming their strategic partnership and promoting trade and investment and to support them go through this transformation that requires in fulfilling their vision.
“I can assure you that H. E’s government and the cabinet are ready to support the process because here lays the greatest opportunity we either get it done or we are left behind and we don’t want to be left behind. The Gambia is up and we shall rise,” she added.
She said the National export strategy is designed as a practical roadmap for the Gambia to achieve increased levels of economic development by focusing its limited but valuable resources on developing export capacity in six priority sectors for which The Gambia has the greatest potential for export development.
However, she said that the NES expected targets are to build a stronger, more responsible, robust and resilient economy, diversify export markets, to encourage and facilitate innovation, to drive resilient through sound export strategies and more.
