West African Health Organization in partnership with the Gambian government has donated 3000 surgical and 2000 bottles of hand sensitizers which has cost D195,000.00 to the Ministry of Health,
Babanding Sabally, Director of pharmaceutical MoH, said: “Covid-19 is seriously affecting the country and one of the measures in response to make sure that it does not increase is by observing the rules. The items that are donated by WAHO is vital for the fact that it will assist in fighting the Covid pandemic which is increasing daily.”
“One of the key interventions of health dispensation is the availability of supplies because is more equated to care delivery system, if suppliers are available in good quality and quantity the health delivery system is deeming as good quality system. Availability of suppliers is the key solution to make sure that quality health service assured to the populace,” he noted.
The Government have done a lot and will continue to do more in ensuring good service to the entire country. However, there is a need for partners to engage with government like WAHO and other partners, he informed.
He highlighted that WAHO has been assisting the country since the emergence of the pandemic and still working with the ministry in term of good service, they provide ventilators and laboratory suppliers he explained and said “the Ministry of Health has set up a donation committee to make sure that all donation items are well accounted.”
Fanta Bai Secka, DPS admin and finance MOH, thanked WAHO for the donations of COVID-19 items, adding that the donation came at the most needed hours because the pandemic is still increasing and that Covid-19 is real.
In that case, she urged all Gambians to always use face mask and hand sanitizers adding that “accountability is important and that is what the ministry of health is promoting,” she said.
Rene Geoffrey Renner, chairperson of donation committee MOH, noted that the ministry welcome any donation service in terms of good quantity and quality.
He said they can do more if more partners are willing to assist the Gambia government to fight against Covid-19 since is a global battle.
