President Adama Barrow Tuesday received representatives of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) at the State House in Banjul. The delegation briefed the President on the organisation’s plan to set up operations in The Gambia.
Jainaba Jagne, the Gambia’s Permanent Representative at the African Union, said H.E. President Barrow was receptive to APRM’s mission and encouraged the representatives to speed up the process in the country.
Madam Jagne said the delegations met the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Interior and the Speaker of the National Assembly and TANGO, representing Civil Society Organisations, to inform them about APRM’s mission.
“This would be an internal Gambian owned procedure,” Ambassador Jagne said. She stated that APRM would identify a focal person and eminent Gambians to work with the institution in the country.
Professor Eddy Maloka, CEO of the APRM Continental Secretariat, said the organisation’s work promotes good governance in Africa. Maloka said they would be working with various stakeholders within the government and civil society bodies to ensure the continuous improvement of governance in the African continent.
Meanwhile, The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, calls for the need to further promote bilateral relations between The Gambia and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania with a more dynamic approach.
Foreign Minister Tangara made this assertion after receiving copies of Letters of Credence of the new Ambassador of Mauritania to The Gambia, His Excellency Sidi Mohamed Ould Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamed Radhy, at a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry in Banjul.
Welcoming the new Mauritanian Envoy, Minister Tangara congratulated Ambassador Mohammed on his appointment and assured him of the continuous collaboration and support of the Government of The Gambia during his tour of duty. Dr.Tangara gave assurance of strengthened bilateral relations.
For his part, H.E. Ambassador Sidi Mohamed Ould Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamed Radhy used the opportunity to express gratitude to the President H.E Adama Barrow, the Government and People of The Gambia for the reception. He said his country is ready to explore possible areas of cooperation with The Gambia.
