Ex-midwifery says teenage pregnancy is on increasing

Retired midwifery has expressed concern over what she described as an alarming rate of teenage pregnancy, as she linked its causes to parents marrying off their girl children early.

“Many of our children got pregnant at an early age and some are forcefully married, due to that it has cause a lot of reproductive health problem and they even face difficulties during child birth, retied mid-wife,” Sira Bah told The Voice newspaper exclusively.

“Teenage pregnancy can be life threatening. When girls are not matured and become pregnant there are serious challenges they face before delivery. If a girl is not matured psychologically or physically it becomes difficult for her to handle the situation. If the organ is not matured it can lead to abnormal pains which can be dangerous to the health of the girl child physically,” she added.

“When these children got pregnant, we the parents try to threaten the girl child and forcing her to abort the pregnancy without bearing that you are exposing her to danger. The teachers have a big role to play in making sure that they advise the children but how many teachers are doing that because they shy away from children the truth adding that we should watch these children as good parents because is our responsibility,” she continued.

According to her, there are a lot of obstacles that occur during child birth and we should not allow our young children to undergo such implications at a tender age. Parents should have mechanism to make sure that they speak to their children and be role models and support them.

“All these terminations of pregnancies are criminal act and there must be a stop to it if not it will be catastrophic. If these trends continue what will be the faith of the future who will be the leaders.

Doctors has confirmed that cervical cancer is caused due to early child bearing and it increased in 2019 to 2020.All the things that are coming from Ministry of gender is through our Minister Fatou Kinteh and I appreciate her good efforts that she is doing for the safeguard of this young children and I urged them to continue with the momentum at all levels,” she lamented.
