Leader of United Democratic Party (UDP), Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, has vowed that his government will implement the recommendations of the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) to ensure that former President Yahya AJJ Jammeh’s victims get justice and compensations.

”The TRRC recommendations will be enforced by a UDP government to the latest and if we have obstacles in enforcing the recommendations, we will get in touch with experts from other places to help us deal with those obstacles,” Lawyer Darboe said during question and answer session with journalists at the launching of the UDP five-point agenda and manifesto held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara conference centre.

He said former Attorney General Baa Tambadou promised that “the culprits will be prosecuted so whoever is not in the country and you are to be prosecuted if you step your foot in this country you will be prosecuted if we are in government.”

He said history has shown that United Democratic Party is committed to protect the rights of individuals, adding “I have personally been challenging governments in the first and second republic.”

”Our brave with the Jammeh regime was that it was a corrupt government we fought against that corrupt government and we cannot condone corruption, institutions that will assist in elimination of corruption in this country, we will set up those institutions and work with those institutions in ending corruption in this country,” he divulged.

The former vice president of The Gambia said UDP five-point agenda clearly states the issue of corruption and promised that his government will address corruption and its related issues in a comprehensive manner.

“Priorities of UDP government during the first 100 days and the first 365 days have been outlined particularly with a strong focus on the public sector reforms, the reform of the security sector and zero tolerance on corruption and violence against women,” he said.

Meanwhile, Almamy Taal spokesman for United Democratic Party said: “The United Democratic Party is calling for a whole transformative political discussion the debate sometimes is based on who can speak English better than the other and I don’t think seriously any Gambian doubt the capability of Ousainou to debate with any political party.”
