Bru Star movie production over the weekend launched and premiered ‘Jong folo’ movie at Brufut Sun splash.

Commenting on the movie shortly after the premier, Musa Darboe Film producer and CEO of the Bru Star movie production explained how the idea of Jong folo movie came about.

“There was a day I was sitting with my brother, who is a writer called Spectator; we were actually talking about how a young girl living opposite our compound was maltreated by her mistress every now and then. While talking about that I told my brother I think I should write her story into a movie, hence he is the first child of her parents I will name the movie “Jong Folo,” he explained.

“Two days later my brother wrote the full story and gives it to me I scripted it and sent it to my superior, he told me that once this movie is shot it will go far and told me the story line is very good. I was not hesitate go in for the production. It is a real life story of a young girl,” he said.

He said that it was actually a very good experience like in Nollywood like how things are done in Nollywood and it taught him a lot about both acting and film production.

“I will not say that there is no hates and grudges in Nollywood  of course, it is everywhere. But in Nollywood they put Nollywood first than their personal differences but here in the Gambia the reason our industry is not going far is because our hearts are full of hates and grudges.,” he affirmed.

According to him, a letter was sent to the film producer association of the Gambia to come and grace the occasions, “which I’m a member but none of them turn up, whatsoever difference they have with me I don’t know. Beside I personally don’t have any difference with anyone.”

For her part, Awa Jallow, the lead actress in the movie acting role of Jong Folo explained the challenges of her role in the movie, saying It was really tough for her to act the role because of the character she has to portray.

‘’The Gambian movie industry is not big like the music industry they show blind eye to the movie industry, they trying to move the music industry up anywhere you go you will see Gambians listening to the Gambian music but if you play a Gambian movie they will be like this Gambians did not know anything as they will switch to another channel,” she explained.
