The former lead counsel of TRRC has offered his reason of joining the presidency in December poll, linking it to bad governance and poor living condition of people in the country.
Essa Faal dismissed claims that he joined politics for personal ambition, but said “I am driven by anger for what is happening in the country whereby the youth don’t have job after paying their educational bills, and after completion of their schooling they remain jobless.”
“The sisters are suffering in the hospitals as it is a death trap, when lots of people are dying, as the cost of living is high and even our police officers are deprived of maintaining a decent standard of living. When you are earning three thousand dalasi monthly and your daily expenses are up to seven thousand dalasi. You are paid three thousand dalasi when your rent is two thousand eight hundred dalasi and you have three children when you can’t even send them to school, I am driven by those problems,” he explained.
“I am driven by those problems and these problems make me angry, people driving beautiful cars at the expense of other people. I will be contented if they are paid for from their own pockets, corruption is endemic in this country and am mad about that. The Gambia lacks infrastructure, (coupled with) the lack of roads we having in this country,” he added
He emphasized that his running for presidency is “because of the terrible malice that is happening in our society.”
“If people don’t have an answer to what you are saying they start attacking you personally, but it will not work, Gambian people are far smarter than that,” he said. And according to him you cannot even invest in The Gambia due to the system.
