Barrow says crowd from his supporters scared opposition

The Gambian President Adama Barrow has taken on the opposition politicians as he said his support crowd scared his opponents ahead of December election.

President Barrow who is seeking second five years in office, was speaking at a rally in Suduwol as his annual meet the peoples’ tour continued reaffirmed that his National People’s Party has entered into a controversial alliance with the party of the former President Yahya Jammeh.

“I am very happy today. I am very happy you people welcome me! I am very happy to see this crowd. The crowd Jimara showed, the crowd North Bank Region showed, the crowd Kantora showed, the crowd CRR North showed, and the crowd Basse showed, is frightening the opposition parties,” he said.

He therefore called on his critics to join him in developing the country, adding those who refused to join his camp are not opposing him in the best interest of the country, but in their own interest.

“On the 9th of October, I will come here and inaugurate the bridges and roads I have constructed. That day I will invite everyone who is from URR to come and attend the inauguration of these projects. That day I want the crowd to be more than this up to an extent no one should feel the hotness of the sun,” he added.

However, he defended alliance with former ruling parties, APRC and PPP, as a stability for the country, as he called on Gambians to keep nurturing the found peace and stability of the country for betterment.

Speaking to a rally in Basse, he said the two parties’ alliance with his party which he branded harbouring a good deal of experience as giving him hope for victory in the December poll.

“The government that had been here for 30 years and the government that had been here for 20 years that accommodate a great deal of experience joining a government that has been here for 5 years. What more experience will I look for?” he asked rhetorically.

“I want stability in this country and having these political parties means there is stability in the country,” he added.

Mr Barrow is almost half way into his meet the people tour, a right enshrined by the Constitution to the nation’s leader to at least tour the country and talk to Gambians about their needs and concerns once in a year.

The tour, which is endorsed by Section 222 [15] of the 1997 Constitution began on 13th September and is scheduled to end on 30th September, 2021.

During the meeting, the President is expected to hold 20 meetings across the country and also visit project sites.
