The Cairo-based Egyptian African Businessmen Association (EABA) Tuesday held “Senegalese Business Day” bringing together virtually leading business personalities in Egypt and Senegal to discuss trade, investment opportunities and other business activities in the West African nation.
The business conference formally kicked off with the opening remarks by Dr. Yousrey Elsharkawy, EABA’s Chairman who set the tone for the agenda to participants of the meeting. He went on to point out EABA’s missions prominent among which was to promote trade and investment opportunities between Egypt and the rest of African countries; be they in the West, East, South and North of the continent.
Chairman Elsharkawy described EABA as some sort of a bridge linking Egyptian businesses in terms of joint investment opportunities to the rest of Africa in favour of sustainable development of the continent via education, training, scientific research, innovation and technology transfers among other things.
For his part, Ambassador Hatem RASLAN the CEO of RASLAN Group says: “it is indeed gratifying and heartening to see us as brothers and sisters coming under such an umbrella like EABA.”
“With such a very prominent and promising body like EABA, we can pool our diversed : resources, knowledge,talent, experience and expertise or whatever towards an inclusive socio-economic development and progress of mother Africa and its people,” he added.
He hailed the birth of Africa Free Trade Area or Zone as well-timed which “could not have come at a better time than now.”
“Now is the time for EABA and its wonderful members consisting of successful businesspeople, career diplomats and smart professionals of all types, to push the collective African Agenda towards meaningful and sustainable development as well as business expansion in this part of our globe.”
Turning his attention to his company, he says the Raslan Group has presence in most countries of West Africa including, Senegal, The Gambia, Mauritania, Sierre Leone among others.
Other speakers included Mr. Jean Claude Ngom, the Director of Marketing /Sales at Senegalese Ministry of Commerce who gave a statement on investment opportunities, the general business environment, laws, regulations and government policies vis-a-vis doing business in Senegal.
Momodou L Jaiteh, EABA, Representative in Senegal was among the many speakers who took turns to make a statement on the day.
It would be recalled that the association also held series of meetings and conferences, one of which was on “the role of African rapprochement in supporting entrepreneurship projects”,and was attended online by EABA members and affliates within Africa and beyond.
