Authoritative information emanating from the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has disclosed that the Council has submitted an over D300 million projected budgets for 2022 fiscal year to the Ministry of Lands, Regional Administrative and Local Governments.
In a statement issued to the press, Council disclosed that the 2022 fiscal year budget has been submitted to the Minister of Local Government for its views and comments as ascribed in the Local Government Act.
“The General Council at its sitting of 9th September, 2021, after reviewed and adjustment has resolved for approval of the budget for fiscal year 2022. The Kanifing Municipal Council has now forwarded the budget for review and comments by the Honorable Minister of local governments and lands as provided by the Local Government Act 2002,” said KMC PRO Muhammed Sandeng.
He continued: “The KMC budget for the year 2022 encapsulates all the development projects, services and administrative expenditure costs of the Council, as well as revenue generation and equitable distribution of council funds amongst various intervention areas for the coming year.”
According to him, the General Council has approved three hundred and seven million, three hundred and seventy-two thousand dalasi) (D307, 372, 000.00) as total revenue budget, three hundred and seven million, two hundred and twenty-two thousand, one hundred and seventy-six dalasi and thirty-five bututs (D307, 222, 176.35) as expenditure budget.
This year, he explained, the General Council has approved two hundred and eleven million, thirty-five thousand, eight hundred and thirty-five dalasi and thirty-five bututs (D211, 035, 835. 00) as development budget, while also expecting Forty million and ninety-two thousand dalasi (D40, 092, 000) subvention from the government of the Gambia.
PRO Sandeng added that the forty million and ninety-two thousand dalasi (D40, 092, 000) is the equivalent of 25% of the development budget that government should contribute to the Kanifing Municipal Council for 2022.
