Insurance Association of The Gambia (IAG) has trained its members on leadership skills development for insurance companies’ branch managers at West Africa Insurance Institute in Kololi.
The training aimed at exposing them acquire effective Management tool to run their business.
In his opening remark, Makaireh Badjan, President of the Insurance Association of The Gambia said: The training is not only for branch managers, (but all).
“We all agreed that the only way our industry could really get prepared and be ready for the future is through capacity building. Also, the insurance Association of The Gambia is committed to read such objectives out of which includes the continued capacity building of the industry,” he said.
He added: “leaders need to understand and know that it is a big responsibility to be a leader. The challenges of the world today, are nothing but bad leadership. So, the training will assist and equip (participants) to be a better person.”
Meanwhile, Secretary General of IAG, Molifa Sanneh, stated that the theme for the training is leadership skills development for insurance branch managers, adding that it is mandatory as an association to organize training for the company staff at least once a year.
He alluded to other speakers that the training will provide the company managers with marketing strategies that will assist them to market their products at their branches.
“I therefore urged all the participants to cooperate and give value to their time and energy during the training session,” he said.
Pa Alieu Sillah, Commissioner of Insurance mentioned that, insurance companies should provide training for their agents and staff for an effective marketing of their products. Saying: “the subject matter for this training is both relevant and timely, good leadership is generally accepted as a critical factor in all human endeavor.”
According to him, the pandemic continues to disturb the global economy most of the list development countries including The Gambia are struggling to meet the pre-pandemic level of growth.
“Under these circumstances we need leadership to drive our economy to minimum growth levels for sustainable development requires good leadership,” he added.
He also said the Insurance branches need to be professional equip with the necessary industry education and information to avoid instances of mal practices such as rate cutting.
