Rotary club donates wheelchair and other items to home of elderly

Rotary and Rotaract Club of Fajara has donated wheelchairs, towels, and blankets amongst other materials to the home of elderly at Bakoteh.

Speaking at the elderly and children centre, Dawda Sowe, president of the Rotary Club of Fajara said: “the materials we are donating today are gifts from Rotary Club of Riordan in the United Kingdom.”

“They send us container of medical items and we try to share the items to institutions that might need them. With collaboration with the Rotaract club of Fajara which are young Rotarians we taught it will be better to give out this item to the center of elderly,” he added.

According to him, most of the items are walkers that the elderly will need and the sanitary pads will be of immense help to them, the same the blankets and towels. Added that, “we want to take this opportunity to thank you though this is not the first time we have been coming here and this won’t be the last time of doing such to this center.”

Adelle M. Sock, Assistant Governor District 9101 said it is their honor and privilege to be able to make a small donation which looks small but they are sure it will go a very long way and their sister club in UK as they sent educational and medical materials. These materials she said they recently distributed while the present distribution that included medical and school materials likely will be the beginning.

“This is an opportunity for us and is part of our goals and activities which includes giving back to the community, we hope to work with you people in future and we hope more organization will donate to your center in the near future,” she gave them hope.

Representing the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Welfare, Alagie F. Saidykhan thanked the Rotary and Rotaract Club of Fajara for donating these items to the center, while he said they are looking forward for a mutual working relationship.

Assistant Governor Modou Lamin Morrow Camara said Maternal and child health and health in particular is a concern for the club especially in the area of global pandemic which Rotarians have done a lot to eradicate the pandemic.

He said now the world is confronted with Covid-19 and Rotary is still contributing with assurance that the materials donated will be in good use and they will serve the purpose that they are given.

Omar Bojang manager at the center of the elderly and children gave an overview of the center saying that the center is divided into two sectors which is the children and the elderly wherein the children side accommodates children and all type of cases such as abandoned babies, missing children, and victims of gender-based violence.
