The Gambia Press Union Saturday trained some numbers of journalists and financial controllers in the newsroom on financial management at a forum held at Baobab Holiday Inn.
Speaking at the opening of the two-day training, Buba Fatty an accountant at GPU said the training will help the financial controllers a lot as most of the financial controllers in the newsroom are not professional accountants.
“This training will help them very well to be able to understand basics of how they will manage the finances in the media training,” he said, adding some of the topics they will be training the financial controllers in newsrooms.
“We have a range of topics that we will be discussing because looking at the media industry in The Gambia they do not have professional financial accountants. We will be discussing basic accounting with the people who deals with finance in media house Some of the topics to be discussed include basic double entry, how they can enter their transactions into their financial management systems, payroll management among others,” he said.
The training is to also cover fixed asset management, financial report, and procurement.
Mam Binta Njie assistant program officer of the Gambia Press Union outlined the importance of this training.
Abdul Latif Fatty accountant at GRTS and a participant said it was an important as it exposed participant way and manners of doing new things.
He also added that the training will equip the participants the requisite knowledge on how to improve their capacity in the execution of their job in a professional manner.
