Ezeh Chinedum Israel, who is alleged to have stolen D431, 125.00 from Bloom Bank was Monday appeared before the Kanifing Magistrate Court presiding over by Magistrate Tamara Chaw.
The accused is currently answerable to a single count of offence – stealing contrary to section 252 of the criminal code cap 10:01 vol iii laws of the Gambia 2009.
According to a police witness who had testified before the court on Monday said it was on 4th January, 2021 when they reposted to office and was approached by staff of Access Bank who informed them that some transaction has happened on their ATM with some amount of money taken away.
“We were given the detail of the card that was used, we made an investigation and found out that the accused took it, it was further revealed that the accused did transactions in different banks – GT Bank and Standard Chartered Bank,’ the witness explained.
The witness went on that GT Bank and Standard Chartered Bank sent a request payment to Bloom Bank on the transaction With GT Bank in the amount of D21, 000 from GT Bank and Standard Chartered is D26, 000. He said after knowing that they reported the matter at the police station and the accused was arrested on the following day.
The accused made a promise that he will deposit one hundred and seventy-five thousand dalasis with two instrumental payments and he first paid D150,000.00 and second payment was D25,000, he explained.
Meanwhile, his particulars of offences stated that Ezeh Chinedum Israel on or about the 31st of December 2020 to 4th of January 2021 at Kairaba Avenue and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality, The Gambia, he has stolen the sum of D431,125.00 from different Access Bank ATM post by using his ATM card of former SKY bank to withdrawn the said amount of D431,125.00 (four hundred and thirty-one thousand, one hundred and twenty-five dalasis) being the property of Bloom Bank Africa Limited.
The Case has been adjourned to 20th October, 2021 continuation.
