MoBSE GABECE Result ANALYSIS Shows Public Schools Defeats Private Schools

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education on Thursday in a press conference held at the regional directorate in Kanifing shows that in GABECE result analysis, public schools defeated private schools in this recently released GABECE 2021 results.

Speaking at the conference, Adama Jimba Jobe, program officer of MoBSE said “the number of candidates who sat to GABECE in 2021, by Region and Gender. Nationally, 26,147 students sat (at least one subject) to GABECE exams, out of which 11,340 are boys and 14,807 are girls. About 418 candidates’ results are not included in this analysis, due to delay in the submission of Continuous Assessment (CASS) marks by their schools.

He added that the trend of candidates with aggregate <= 42 by region over the last three years. Nationally, the number of candidates with aggregate 42 or less has increased from 12,148 in 2020 to 12,354 in 2021.

He said the gender of students with aggregate 42 or less has increased from 12,148 in 2020 to 12,354 in 2021.  In terms of volume, there are more girls than boys with aggregate score of 42 or less for the last three years.

“Comparing 2020 to 2021, the number of passes in the four core subjects increased. Passes in English has increased from 11,419 to 14,254, Math from 6,028 to 9,589, Science from 12,863 to 14,370 and SES from 14,811 to 16,513. The number of candidates with pass in core subject by gender, the number of passes has increased across both gender in the core subjects,” he said.

He further added that the number of candidates with credit by subject (focusing on the core subjects), in 2021, 8,763 students credited English, 5,453 students credited Math, 9,414 students credited Science and 11,370 credited SES. Compared to 2020, the volume of students with credit in the core subject has increased across all subjects.

Mr Jobe, while comparing the public schools to the private schools, said “the number of schools that registered aggregate 6 by management type (Public and private). Out of the 16 schools with students that recorded aggregate 6, 11 are public and 5 are private.

According to Mr Jobe the distribution of students with aggregate 6 by gender and management type Amongst the 19 students with aggregate 6, 12(63%) are from the public and 7(37%) are from the private. Looking at the number of students with aggregate 6 by gender, 12 are boys and 7 are girls.
