Jollof Town crown Beach Football Tournament Champion

In a well contested Beach Football Tournament organized by the City Link Ostend-Banjul project also known as Future Proof Banjul in collaboration with the Banjul City Council the Jollof Town Ward has defeated New Town East Ward 1:0 to emerged winner of the competition held in Banjul Beach Nefertiti last Sunday.

The three-day tournament presided over by the Mayor of Banjul City Council, Lord Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, was held 1st to 3rd October and it featured nine wards namely Jollof Town; Half Die; Portuguese; New Town West; New Town East; Soldier Town; Campama; Box Bar; and Crab Island plus the BCC team.

Jollof Town Ward team took the lead in the second half of the first set of the game as number 3 man for the team hit the ball inside the goal post while New Town East team tightened up their boots to equalizer, but all their efforts become impossible as the final whistle was blew by the centre referee.

The crowned team, Jollof Town Ward went home with the cash prize of D15,000.00, a trophy and medals for the players; the runner up team, New Town East Ward walked away with cash prize of D10,000.00, a trophy while the players also decorated with medals. The semi-finalist received cash prize of D2,000.00 and other participated teams as well got consolation cash prize, too.

Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe expressed delights over the beach football tournament saying it brings unity among the wards.

She said the tournament falls among one of the five components of the City Link Ostend-Banjul project.

She therefore commended all the teams including their coaches, the Red Cross members and as well members of the project team, which she said they are doing well.

The Banjul number one, Honorable Malick-Lowe used the opportunity to highlight on the five key components of the City Link Ostend-Banjul project, which include good governance; greening the city of Banjul; accessible health care; sustainable development centre at Crab Island and improved waste management which she said so dear to her heart.

However, she thanked the partner noting that the City Link Ostend-Banjul project is an over 3million euro sponsored sponsor by the European Union.
