Darboe preaches peace, says no to violence

The leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Honorable Ousainu Darboe, has advised his party supporters to uphold and respect the country’s law and desist from violence.

Lawyer Darboe gave the advice during a rally held in Jarumeh Kuta, as he continues his countrywide tour aimed to familiarize the party’s 5-point agenda to the Gambians.

“UDP will continue upholding the law by respecting the law and advice people against anything that could bring violence in the country,” he said.

“UDP is not a violent party and whenever there happens a problem between UDP and others because of politics is usually the supporters of the government who backed themselves with the power of government and this is why whenever they are taken to court for judgment in such problems the opponents always came out with shame,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said: “IEC said 5,000 people but we will bring 15,000 people to show to them that these are the people who nominate Ousainou Darboe.”

He called on Gambians to vote for him, adding that the love and the welcomes he has seen from the party supporters reminds him of 1996 election campaign when people used to welcome him up to 2am.

“In September 2013 anyone who watched the GRTS television would have seen Amadou Sanneh been brought in by the NIA, televised. And the only thing you could imagine at that time was: he is going to die in the next 2minute, they want to force him to confess and apologize to former president Jammeh but what he said was: the people of my party and the party leaders I will apologize to you if I did something wrong you are the people I will apologize to. And he was jailed for years and this doesn’t make him to retaliate. He believe in The Gambia and aimed something for The Gambia, the interest of his family and his own interest does not make him turn his back to The Gambia,”  Darboe said in a heavy voice in Farafenni meeting.
