The elder brother of former president Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa has described the recent political marriage between President Adama Barrow’s NPP and former president Yahya Jammeh’s APRC party as an intimidation and betrayal to the people of Kanilai.
Speaking to The Voice exclusively, Muhammed Modou Lamin Anthony Jammeh blamed Fabakary Tombong Jatta and his colleagues for the present disarray in the party, noting that it is important for the executive members (of the party) to always inform its members of their plight before taking any decision.
However, Muhammed Modou Lamin Anthony Jammeh without mince words said “the (APRC/NPP) alliance is a betrayal and humiliation to the people of Kanilai because the root of the APRC party is from Kanilai.”
“I have not seen anything productive from the alliance and of the party they are forming alliance with, what have they seen from him? Nothing than brutality and bullying us, I was a victim during our demonstration, Kanilai was shot with heavy guns some of our youth and intelligent boys were all sacked,” he fumed.
According to him, any major decision to be taken by the APRC executive should be known to the party members especially the people of Jammeh’s home village.
“Whatever major decision that the party is taking, Kanilai should be aware of it but that was not the case in this matter as the people underground were never inform or aware of the issue of the alliance between the NPP and APRC until decision was announced on media conference sometime in September 2021,” he disclosed.
However, he recalled the Kanilai demonstration in 2018 which claimed one life and dozen others arrested saying one of Barrow’s Ministers said: ‘the people of Foni will either abide by the law or be consumed by the law.’
“So how can we go with an alliance with somebody who has such mentality”? Jammeh said it is all Cock and Bull story for people to say the people of Kanilai are in for the alliance as earlier stated in some media platforms during president Barrow`s visit to the family of former president Jammeh in Kanila.”
According to him, they didn’t want Barrow to visit Kania but that they have no choice “because he [Barrow] is the president and has more power now.”
