The Victims of Human Rights Violation under the regime of former president Yahya Jammeh and the Civil Society Organisations have announced their readiness to hold #NeverAgainMarch on Saturday to call for justice and full implementation of TRRC report which is yet to be submitted.
Speaking at a news conference held at TANGO on Thursday, Madi Jobarteh, an activist told reporters that “we are calling on all Gambians to demonstrate collective national commitment, we want a new Gambia we want to demonstrate peace, reconciliation and unity. We want to inform the government that this is the wishes of the masses of the Gambia.”
He called on the public to join the March pass which will start at Serekunda Post Office to Westfield Youth Monument.
“We are asking everyone to wear a white T-shirt either written or plain and Banas will be provided with the slogan #NeverAgain,” he added.
“We are patiently awaiting the TRRC report and its recommendations, we the people, victims, their families and members of the Civil Society Organizations, we call on all Gambians to join the #NeverAgain March in order to express solidarity with all victims and reaffirm our commitment to the transitional justice process and for implantation of the TRRC recommendations,” Mr Jobarteh stated.
He continued that “Gambians want justice, according to a study released on September 6, 2021 by Afro barometer 73% of Gambians want perpetrators of crimes and human rights abuses, during the reign of the government, to be tried in court,” he said.
He said that the march is strictly apolitical, as he urged political parties and supporter to participate without party symbols.
According to him, they want to transform this country by upholding the transitional justice program, adding that their international partners and each and every citizen of the Gambia that this is what Gambians want.
He also urged those who want to take part in the March pass to wear facemask and respect the coronavirus regulations by sanitizing their hands, too.
