The Gambia Hotel Association (GHA) has enjoined the authorities reschedule the Gambia election from winter tourist season for a smooth running of the sector.
Speaking at the National Policy and Strategy of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture validation workshop held at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, Francis Njie, chairman of the Gambia Hotel Association, said National Assembly members should reschedule election period away from the tourism season.
He said “the main reason for the slowdown of this tourism season is as a result of the election to be held in December 2021, in view of this we wish to appeal to the National Assembly and relevant stakeholders to consider moving the presidential election from December to a period outside the tourist season.”
According to him, it is important that this is considered and the goal and objective shown in the document will soon be into practice.
He challenged the National Centre for Arts and Culture to from now on take a lead role in properly exposing the fine culture of this nation and organize periodic cultural events, shows, festivals, expeditions and competitions and participants should be financially rewarded.
He said for destination Gambia to be a success story in the nearest future “we all have a role to play in promoting tourism and for its upkeep to bring more tourists.” Adding that, the modest way to do so is to be committed to buying made in Gambia, eat Gambia, see Gambia, enjoy Gambia and feel Gambia. To the youth kindly explore your talents and make this our Gambia a paradise on earth.”
He thanked UNDP Gambia office for the financial aid handed to employees of this institution and to the Gambia government through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
