Ex-minister states reason for joining UDP

The former Minister of Information and Communications under exiled president Yahya Jammeh has explained reasons for joining United Democratic Party under President Adama Barrow’s administration.

Dr Amadou Scattered Janneh who was speaking at the official welcoming of disqualified female presidential aspirant, Ajaratou Marie Sock-Jobarteh to opposition United Democratic Party, described the party as a party that respects rights of people and has strong vision to developing the country.

“Everyone is equal in UDP and I take example of myself when I joined the party two years back which I don’t regret because I wanted to form my own political party but when I see the vision of the party [United Democratic Party] and the sacrifice and struggle the party leader [Lawyer Ousainou Darboe did for this country, I decided to foregone forming my party and join him and the party for the development of the country,” Dr Janneh said.

Meanwhile, he thanked Ms Sock-Jobarteh and her supporters for endorsing Lawyer Darboe’s bid for presidency in December, saying only those with vision to see the development of the country are joining the United Democratic Party.

“We are very happy today because those who see the progress and development of the country will come and join us [UDP] and we have seen how visionary Ajaratou Marie Sock-Jobarteh has for the country that’s why she came with her supporters to join UDP. We are happy for the endorsement of Alhaji Darboe’s presidency because we know she [Marie Sock-Jobarteh] has a big support base in the country,” he added.

For her part, Marie Sock-Jobarteh expressed gratitude for endorsing Darboe’s presidency bid and assured of his victory in December.

She said: “Just to let you know, by God’s wills, December 4, UDP, Alhaji Ousainou Darboe 4th December, we the women and we the Gambians will back him to State House.”
