Sheriffo Sonko, the chairman of Brikama Area Council has been asked to resign amid a viral sex scandal audio that sparked public debate.
In a letter signed by Momodou Charreh Gibba, councilor of Gunjur Ward demanded the highly respected public official and the lady allegedly named as Fatou Jallow to tender his resignation for public good.
“The office of chairman of the Brikama area council is an honorable office that deserves and commands huge respect and high integrity. Any occupier of this honorable office is expected to uphold high integrity and dignity of the office as enshrined in the Oath of office. Sherrifo Sonko and Fatou Jallow have shamed our high office and the institution as a whole. They might be shameless but we as honorable councilors are very much concerned and disturbed by this scandalous revelation -the manner, behavior, and conduct of these people by using the office and the “Travel” programs of the council in exchange for their sexual desires,” he wrote in the letter.
“We cannot ignore this irresponsible behavior because the reputation of Brikama Area Council is grossly damaged. Brikama Area Council is struggling to build its reputation, public trust, and confidence, therefore this immoral conduct of Sherrifo Sonko and Fatou Jallow is not acceptable. I wrote to Sherrifo Sonko questioning him why Fatou Jallow has been traveling all the time while we have 7-8 female councilors. Now the truth has come out, I was informed about this but there was no evidence so here we are,” he added.
“Apologies to the council would not be sufficient only to resign and save yourselves from further humiliations. Your conduct and behavior are untenable, dishonorable, and will not be accepted so just do the right thing. Hence, I took Oath to serve without fear or favor, affecting ill will I am hereby calling both of you to resign immediately for abuse of office and the “Travel” programs of the council,” he concluded.
Though, according to him, the BAC office is expected to uphold the high integrity and dignity of the office as enshrined in the Oath of office, describing the act of the chairman as an abuse of office.
