Legacy Election Observation Mission (LEOM) has submitted its election report to the election commission of the University of The Gambia at a forum held at the University Faculty of Law.

Saikou Sawaneh, board member of LEOM said legacy is an organization that has been operating for a while and is born to contribute to skills development.

“Since inception we have been doing a lot of advocacies to stakeholders and contributing in the democratic development and we work in ensuring that the capacity of young people is developed and earn their full potential. As far as UTG is concern this is the fifth time Legacy is observing their election, the election has been going for over five days and eventually the results of students’ union are out. During the five days election we have made strong recommendations to the UTG students in ensuring free and fair election. All this are done to ensure perfection although we cannot be perfect, we will continue to improve and the recommendations are adhered to,” he said.

Lamin Njie, chief election observer said: “looking at the content of this report the tradition of the mission is categorized on areas observed , the gender participation, media, and the most part of it is how secured it is going down with the legal actions observed.”

“In addition, observation started from the pre-elections and post, pre including convention, campaign period and Election Day. In as much as it was success but challenges are there the EC and the entire students fall to abide to as far as the campaign is concern and nominations.  The laws of the EC are adhered to although the convention day was something else. We are at the ground and how the EC have struggled to make sure it is successful,” he said.

Abubacarr Sanneh, National coordinator Gambia legacy, thanked the entire commission and also the UTG for giving them this opportunity to observe this year’s students’ election.
