NAVSTI trains 20 on capacity building

The National Association of Vocational and Skill Training Institute (NAVSTI) in collaboration with (ITC) and National Accreditation of Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA) conducted a five days training for twenty managers on educational training and leadership management to boost their capacity.

Dr Gibril Jaw, chief executive officer of NAQAA said the training is meant to facilitate quality delivery of TVET, contribute to market driven programmes being delivered and facilitate the growth and sustainability of TVET institutions.

“We realized that this sub skills are lacked in most of this training Institution. They have been conducting series of trainings but this one is exclusively for Centre Managers. They are leaders therefore, they should know what leadership is all about so that they can lead their institutions effectively,” he said.

“We want them to be qualified Leaders and lead their institutions to the destined pole. They doubled as Managers so they need to be trained on how to mobilize resources, to budget and how to manage human resources effectively. They are in a journey of excellence dealing with quality education; if the pilot is not trained the journey will definitely be affected. These institutions are producing the workers of tomorrow, so we need to capacitate the leaders of the institutions for them to produce better products,” he said

Chan Mendy, managing director of Ida’s Ideas and Fashion Institution, said the training has boost her capacity and knowledge as to which she can use to improve her management and the work she does in her institution.”

According to her, she has been a manager for a very long time but being a head of an institution is something new to her.

“So, with what I have learnt through this training will help me on how to manage, motivate and inspire my staff to work towards achieving the goal of our institution,” she said.

Almameh Gibba, the head of Gambia Telecommunication and multimedia Institution. Said he believe that leadership matters in any institution and that he had learnt a lot through this training because it will help him on interaction co-relation with his staff and also how to uphold a better leadership style.

So “we will go back to our various institutions and share the knowledge with our students, staff and colleagues,” he promised.
