By Binta Jaiteh

President Adama Barrow has called on both Gambians living at home and in the diaspora to join him to build The Gambia as the campaign for presidency come to an end yesterday.

Speaking at a rally in Talinding, Barrow told his opponents that his party’s coalition with other opposition parties show his victory, saying “because we are stronger than them.”

“All parties backing the NPP, their leaders are here and I congratulate and thank them. I want to let them know that their backing NPP makes NPP stronger in the country and it has solidified my campaign, anyone who is here for the election knows that we are stronger than them,” Barrow told the rally at Buffer Zone.

“My friends and family who have been with me since the start of the campaign, I thank you all. My diaspora people who bought tickets and left their families and jobs and come and join me because of their love for NPP and The Gambia, I thank you all. You people are true sons and daughters of the country. Anyone who is Gambian, I want you to come and join me to build this country. So, you the diaspora people this shows that you people have listened to my call for nation building,” he said to them.

“NPP is the biggest party and most powerful than any party that want to contest in this election. As the saying goes majority covers all, we appreciate all their efforts. However, to be a president it shows what your attitude is and the people of Gambian has seen my attitude and I assure them being a president will not change me. I want everyone to preach peace when the elections are over that is my intention because we own this country. NPP and our grand coalition we believe in ourselves that’s why we don’t want violence but win in peace and rule the whole Gambia in peace and with peace,” he said.

“If I happen to win this election let’s all unite as one Gambia so that I can rule the country in peace with development I want the opposition to think like that,” he added.

He described this year’s campaign as one of the best in the history of The Gambia, adding that the campaign avail everyone a freedom and security to express his or her views without any disturbances.

“Since The Gambia was formed until this day, this kind of campaign has never happened in the country because everyone has his or her freedom and security and respect. So, even if they don’t thank my government, I should thank my government for availing freedom and democracy for Gambians because no one is in fear for going into election and everyone is freely expressing his or her views without fear of arrest,” he said.
