The 73-year-old leader of United Democratic Party, lawyer Ousainou Darboe, has urged citizens to maintain peace and stability after he casted his vote on Saturday.

Speaking to journalists immediately after casting his vote at the Sabena polling station, lawyer Darboe one of the six contestants for the presidential election said: “I implore every Gambian to stay calm no one should engage in act of provocation whether by conduct or by word, because if you do so, we would be destabilizing our country, we will be giving opportunity to anarchist to put this country into chaos and is nobodies interest.”

“As I said at Bakoteh remember we are in the tourist season the slice-less disturbance in this country will drive away the entire tourist and then that will lead to the laying of several young men who are working in these industries,” he said.

Meanwhile, he expressed gratitude to the government for giving him a thirty-two-man contingent that provides his security throughout his campaign, while Momodou Sabally expressed positivity that “I have confident in the IEC that the election will be free and fair and Gambians would accept whatever result is declare and we believe our candidate Ousainou Darboe will win.”

“The turnout at the polling station is impressive and it signifies that young people in The Gambia still believe change in the country. That is going to happen as UDP will install the next president of the country,” he added.

Marie Socks also added “we are expecting to jubilate, we are expecting that this is the turnaround for Gambians this is what we have been waiting for and we expect that we win and things will change for the better because this is a government not a coalition and hopefully UDP will finally get its actual government.”
