Police have arrested Lamin Darbo alias Kani-Kunda, 47-year-old man over a viral audio calling people to a post-electoral violence, he was arrested along with four other people mentioned in the audio.
The man in the audio says “today is a public holiday but tomorrow after the court hearing and we don’t hear any news that pleases us, women stay home but The Gambia should set ablaze so that we can be independent if not because this is what happened in Rwanda until. The election is not fair, the vote counted was not announced but the votes uncounted were announced and we will not accept that. So, the youths tomorrow after the court hearing, if we don’t hear news that pleases us anyone who can make bomb you make it because the election was not fair.”
Police spokesman Lamin Njie told The Voice Newspaper that: “Officers of the Police Special Investigations Unit on Tuesday, 8th December, 2021 launched a swift investigation into a viral audio in which a man who later became known (identified) as Lamin Darbo alias KaniKunda, 47, was heard calling for post-electoral violence. In the viral audio he was heard calling for people to make explosives and burn the country which resulted in widespread fear and concern among the general public.”
“Four other names mentioned as accomplices belonging to the same group Santamba Kangkilling Kafo at Busumbala West Coast Region, were equally arrested and currently helping police in their investigations. The police wish to once again warn all that we will not allow this country to fall into a state of lawlessness and any individual or group found wanting will be dealt with strictly according to Law,” he added.
