Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) party has announced that the party will sue the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over contempt proceedings as well as a new civil suit.
Mai Ahmad Fatty, leader of GMC said: “GMC fought a just case at the High Court against our unlawful exclusion from the presidential electioneering processes and won. We are now in the process of subjecting the IEC to contempt proceedings as well as a new civil suit against them. At the time, persistence on enforcing our entrenched constitutional right was prejudged in many quarters. Some labelled us spoilers. I personally was targeted for relentless hi-tech pressure, apparent blackmail and virulent verbal lynching. My innocent motives were demonized and my integrity was violently assaulted.”
“All these syndicated campaigns of calumny originated from one unionized political source, aided and abetted by few disloyal members from within. Why? Simply because we insisted focusing exclusively on seeking justice in court first instead of simultaneously, singing their song. They subjectively placed their electioneering priority above the specific Mandate of our Party, an independent, sovereign political establishment. I went through some of the worst personal insults and wildest allegations in modern era. It only made me tougher.
“Well, today in particular, once more I’d like to salute the gallant, loyal soldiers of GMC and its sympathizers for standing by us in our toughest period. It was a clear revelation as to who was who. During those difficult but lonely days, we entrusted our fate in Allah. We knew the Almighty shall never let us down. We were not shamed. The hallowed Halls of Justice proved us correct before the entire universe, that we were intentionally cheated out of the process. That is victory, mighty enough,” he added.
“The Party is poised to emerge stronger, and better organized for the future. Some who left us in our hour of critical need due to undue pressure from disloyal members within, or some sort of overbearing external influence, our doors are wide open. We know many of you shall eventually return home, and you shall be welcomed with open arms.
“The difficult days are now behind us, and as faithful believers, we accept the decree of the Most-High. Many of you are already forgiven and we encourage you to please return home. Don’t hesitate to return home, unconditionally,” he said.
