Karpowership, a Turkish energy firm supplying The Gambia and some other nations around the world electricity power, has donated D312,000 to the Faraba Kairaba Health Centre to support the clinic to kick-start operation.
The donation ceremony brought together top regional health workers, Karpowership officials and local residents who all expressed a great deal of happiness about the gesture.
Speaking at the ceremony, Famara Fatty, the clinic’s manager, thanked Karpowership for the timely support and promise the community’s commitment in ensuring the fund is judiciously put into the affairs of the health centre.
“We are happy today about the timely support from Karpowership because we have been seeking funding support from other organizations and institutions for more than three years. But thank God since we approached Karpowership, they accepted our request and has fulfilled their promise,” he said.
Again, “we want to take this opportunity to thank Karpowership for the support and we hope to receive more of such supports from Karpowership because we have lots of unfinished projects in Faraba Kaiaraba and we want to complete these projects,” he added.
“And very soon we hope to start work at the health centre and if work starts, we want to ensure the health center become an outstanding health care provider in the country,” he expressed hopefully.
Madam Jeandare Jarju-Kujabi, regional director of health services thanked Karpowership for the donation, saying they are empowering the community in accessing health care delivery.
She urged the community to also to give support to the health centre in either cash or kind, while assuring them of her office commitment in ensuring the health centre continue to operate.
She therefore challenged each and every community members of Faraba Kairaba to take responsibility of the clinic, as they should not only rely on donations but also be able to do something for the clinic.
Yankuba Mamburay, country manager for Karpowership, also expressed his company’s delights saying he is glad to report that since their arrival (in the country) they have been able to stabilize electricity supply in the country.
He noted that their primary mandate is to generate and supply electricity while along the line engaging in some social responsibility and we practice this wherever we are, and that they are in so many countries in this world such as in The Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, in Guinea Bissau and even in Ghana.”
