Women’s U-20 coach expresses satisfaction despite elimination

By Arfang M.S. Camara

The head coach of the Gambia Women’s Under-20 team, Foday Bah has expressed satisfaction with his team’s resilience against a strong Moroccan side.

The Gambia women’s U-20 team were heavily defeated by Morocco 6-0 in the second leg of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers played in the Moroccan capital, Rabat on Sunday.

The host team Morocco scored three goals in each half to complete a comprehensive 9-1 aggregate win, following a 3-1 win from the first leg.

“We played against a better, well-prepared and motivated team. A team that has everything worked to their advantage. We just tried and did our best and this is the best that we could’ve done,” added Coach Foday Bah.

According to him, it’s unfortunate that the score-line could have been worse, noting that he has nothing much to say than to congratulate his girls for their performances.

“We fought so hard. We chased and tried to keep possession but we couldn’t because they were better in every department. They also have the home-ground advantage and the weather. Everything was against us.”

Meanwhile, the Gambia’s chances of going to the FIFA World Cup were dented by Morocco and the team returned back to Banjul in the early hours of Monday morning.
