KMC Urges Business and Property Owners to Settle Taxes or Risks Court Actions after New Year

The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) under the leadership of Lord Mayor, Ahmed Talib Bensuda has called on businesses, canteen and property owners to settle their taxes before end of year or risk court actions.

This was stated in the issued press statement of the council on Wednesday, 15th December, 2021, while also applauded taxpayers who are committed to paying their taxes in time in a bid to enhancing service delivery of the council.

“Canteen and Kiosk leaseholders are kindly urged to pay by end of year or they risk fine been added to their balance and been taken to court for default and could lose their lease. Businesses with outstanding Trade License invoices are urged to pay by year ended, in doing so they avoid receiving summons to go to court and penalties been added to the sum owed,” KMC press release disclosed.

It added in the statement that “Property owners are urged to pay their rates and outstanding arrears or risk being served summons to court and a fine been added to their arrears. Please note that if you are absent, you have your property, whether if it is rented or left vacant, you have to inform KMC and ensure that rates are paid.”

The release continued to state that property owners may risk losing their properties if owners continue not paying their taxes and rates to council, adding that this could affect anyone whether taken to court or not.

“We thank the huge majority of our taxpayers for paying their fair share, we all need to pay our taxes for development of Kanifing Municipality for better facilities and services. However, not everyone is paying and it is only fair that everyone pays, so that there is equitable access to amenities and proper service delivery,” Council submitted.
