The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission has announced the submission of extra hard copies of the commission’s report to the government.
A statement from the secretariat of the commission has stated that “The Secretariat of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC) has Tuesday 15th December 2021, submitted an additional ten (10) hard copies and fifteen (15) soft copies on flash drive of its final report to the Ministry of Justice for onward distribution to stakeholders.
“The Truth Commission officially submitted their final report of findings on human right violations that have been happening under the regime of the former president Yahya Jammeh`s 22 years dictatorial rule, to president Barrow on the 25th of November 2021, and on the 15th December. “25 additional copies of the report were handed over to the Ministry of Justice alongside a suggested list of public institutions, international organizations, foreign embassies, victims’ organizations, and civil society organizations that should receive the report,” this was stated in the Commission’s report.
“At a consultative meeting between the TRRC Executives Secretary Baba Galleh Jallow and his senior staff of the secretariat and Minister of Justice Dawda Jallow with his staffs on the 3rd of December, the Justice Minister requested the copies of the report to be sent to his office to do the further distribution of the documents to the designated stakeholders. As the Gambia government give the responsibility to the Justice Ministry to do the distribution of the TRRC final document to all stakeholders as required under section 30 (2) of the TRRC act,” it added.
“The stakeholders to receive the report include the National Assembly, the United Nations Secretary General and Local, Regional and International organizations. This is in line with section 30, Sub-section 1 and 2 of the TRRC Act which stated that: Within thirty days of receiving the report, the President shall submit a copy to the (a) National Assembly; (b) United Nation Secretary General; and (c) such other regional and international organizations as the ministry may determine,” this was included in the statement.
The president, upon receiving the report, under Sub-section (1), the Minister shall in consultation with the executive secretary make copies or summaries of it available to the public.
