Fortune gets back to winning ways, Real de Banjul closes gap at the top

The defending champions, Fortune FC got back to winning ways after recording two consecutive victories, while Real de Banjul also continued with their impressive form to close the gap at the top of the standings with both games played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.

The Petroleum Boys, Fortune FC seems to have found the fuel to their vehicle after registering two wins on the bounce with the latest was 1-0 win over newly promoted side Team Rhino.

Ebou Sanyang scored the only goal in the match for the Last year’s League winners in the 59th minute of the second half, after playing a goalless stalemate in the first half.

This victory has moved Fortune FC to 6th position with 7 points, leveling with Hawks and Waa Banjul (with the latter playing yesterday). Team Rhino dropped in the relegation zone (14th) position with 2 points after four matches.

Elsewhere, Real de Banjul defeated Hawks FC 1-0 in a Banjul-derby encounter played at the Stadium on Sunday.

Defender Modou Manneh scored the only goal in the game with a well-taken strong shot in the 57th minute, leaving 10-man Hawks FC looking for an equalizer.

Hawks FC finished the game with 10-men after playmaker Lamin Jarju was sent off in the early 7th minute of the game.

This defeat dropped Hawks FC to 5th position with 7 points, while Real de Banjul moved to 2nd position with 10 points, leveling with newly promoted side Falcons FC.

Meanwhile, at the time of going to press yesterday (Monday), Waa Banjul were playing against Samger FC in the earlier encounter at the Stadium, while Marimoo also played Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) in the late match.
