Migrant Boat missing since leaving Gambia for Europe

A migrant boat carrying dozens of people onboard has been reported missing since it left the shores of The Gambia for Europe sometimes in November this year.

Italy-based Gambian activist, Mr Ebrima Drammeh, who spoke to King FM Radio Station on Wednesday, 22nd December 2021, has confirmed the information of the missing Boat.

He said the missing boat carrying the migrants left the shores of The Gambia precisely November 8, 2021.

With heavy heart, he said their (migrants) families are left in a dilemma as they don’t know the exact whereabouts of their loved ones onboard the missing boat, while they are appealing to both national and international bodies to support in search for the missing boat and people onboard.

“We are making efforts to gather relevant updates information about this particular boat but as of now there is no relevant information about the Boat. What we can say as at today is that the boat is still missing in the ocean,” he said.

According to him, the information they gathered from the Spanish Red Cross and their securities that are in the ocean, Morocco and Mauritania were all contacted, is that they have no information or knowledge about any missing Boat in their waters.

On Tuesday, he said that he spoke with a man who works in the Spanish ocean to support people who use the Mediterranean Sea to rescue them, but the man responded that they will check on router from Morocco to other relevant countries for the searching and finding the lost boat.

He emphasized that “what we can confirm is that the boat is lost and couldn’t reach Europe and when it land on the European shores we will have information.”

Meanwhile, another Boat entered Europe a few days back, the boat left The Gambia but he cannot confirm which of the village or area in The Gambia the particular boat takes-off for Europe.

But “this other boat left The Gambia on the 30th November and it arrived with one hundred and six (106) people, seventeen (17) people died in the Boat and there were forty (40) onboard who were under 18 years old,” he confirmed.
