Gambian king of the Wrestling Arena, Hoyontan of Club Ndongo Ceesay is set to fight in a rematch with Senegalese wrestler Baye Mandione on Christmas Day (Saturday 25th December 2021), in Dakar, Senegal.
The Wellingara-based wrestler, Hoyontan is set to be the first Gambian wrestler to fight in a grand combat in Senegal.
The bout organize by Jam Production will be hosted in the Iconic Senegalese Arena National in Dakar on Saturday 25th of December, 2021.
The two great wrestlers (Hoyontan and Baye Mandione) will engage in a Grand Combat for the second time, preceding to the one that was held at the Independence Stadium on 15th December 2019, when the referee declared Hoyontan the winner after Baye Mandione refused to cut his nails as required by the laws of the game.
Hoyontan who is undefeated will be looking to continue his impressive run and complete the double over Baye Madione while the Thiaroye Gom Sa Bopa wrestler will be looking to return to winning ways following 5 successive defeats.
Speaking during his press conference, Hoyontan urged Gambian supporters to maintain the discipline while supporting in Dakar and allow him to do the fight in the field against Baye Mandione.
“I want to open a new phase in Gambian wrestling. I want the Senegalese wrestling authorities to equal opportunities to Gambian wrestlers to dance with their people before the grand combat as they do to Senegalese wrestlers.”
According to him, one of the main reason he agreed to fight Baye Mandione in Dakar is to open new phase in Gambian wrestling and also for Gambian wrestler to be given equal opportunity in the Senegalese arena.
Meanwhile hundreds of Gambian fans are getting ready to travel to Dakar today (Friday) to support Hoyontan as the Gambia government through the ministry of Youth and Sports provided four busses to transport fans to and from Dakar for the combat.
