Dodou Jah, deputy spokesman for APRC, has said the former ruling party will support victims of human rights violations under former President Yahya Jammeh.
Jah’s remark comes months after his team felt out with exiled former President Yahya Jammeh over endorsing President Adama Barrow’s re-election. Jammeh later sacked and labelled the Fabakary Tombong Jatta-led team as ‘traitors.
But Honorable Tombong-led team vowed not to accept Jammeh’s sacking insisting that the party doesn’t belong to Jammeh who has been living in exile since losing the 2016 presidential election to Barrow.
However, Jah said: “Justice will serve its course, but it’s not going to be like people bending it to the corner to settle score with certain individuals or the former president.” He noted that APRC will accept any decision against Jammeh “if it acts [action against Jammeh] is in line with the laws of the land then who APRC is to say no?”
He continued that the country is bigger than them as a party and an individual and we as Gambians have nothing against the victims and we have been saying and urging Gambians to let law take its course “we are not against justice and we will definitely support the victims ourselves,” he stated.
The Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission report has named Jammeh and dozens of people who worked with him in almost all crimes ranging from killings, torture and rape in its report. However, Jammeh is yet to respond to the allegations against him.
