The Deputy Commissioner General and Head of Domestic Taxes at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) Mr. Essa Jallow has disclosed that the level of tax complaint has significantly increased over the years despite global deadly Coronavirus pandemic that has affected the revenue collection in major sectors in The Gambia and beyond.
According to Mr Jallow, the level of tax compliant has yielded positively in the performance of the revenue collection by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA).
He confirmed that GRA has over the years registered unprecedented revenue performance. He said this is due to the level of voluntary tax complaint from individual, companies, all and sundry and every single revenue collected matters to GRA.
According to him, GRA has been doing relatively well in meeting its annual revenue target tasked by Government and he praised all tax compliant for enabling GRA attained its annual revenue target and by extension the media for playing a very cardinal role in educating and sensitizing the general public on the relevant of payment of taxes.
He therefore, seized the opportunity to advise all and sundry to respect the laws of the land particularly the Revenue laws which is the lifeline blood of the country. He explained that GRA is implementing its activities within its mandate.
The DCG emphasised that it is through tax collected that Government provide social amenities, build of schools, health centres, road salaries among others. Therefore collection of revenue or payment of taxes cannot be ignored.
GRA, he reminded the public, is tasked by Government to collect D13.5Billion annual revenue target for 2022, this is a challenge ahead.
