UDP will not congratulate Barrow, says Hon Madi Ceesay

By Adama Makasuba

Honorable Madi Ceesay, the National Assembly member for Serrekunda West constituency, has insisted that opposition United Democratic Party, will not congratulate President Adama Barrow for his December landslide victory.

United Democratic Party in December 2021 lost its legal case against President Adama Barrow and the Independent Electoral Commission after the Supreme Court struck out the case on technicality base.

However, Honourable Ceesay argued that the Supreme Court didn’t rule base on matters brought before them by United Democratic Party.

“He [Lawyer Darboe] cannot congratulate him because what happened is that the court didn’t judge what brought before them. We went to court insisting that no one defeated us because they cheated us in the election. We went to court because non-Gambians were inserted in the voting list and we went to court because the party declared winner did lots of inducement to get vote. These were our reasons of going to court but the court didn’t sit over these matters,” he said.

“If the court sit over this matter and rule against us, we will congratulate Barrow, but what took us to the court was not given a good judgement,” he added.

“As far as the court only stopped at ruling against us because of technicality because there was no proper ruling and for that case, we cannot congratulate President Adama Barrow because if we congratulate him is like we are contradicting ourselves. We cannot congratulate him despite he is the president and we cannot do anything about that but we also own ourselves,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, “President Barrow didn’t help us with nothing [United Democratic Party] during last parliamentary elections because at that time in 2017 President Barrow was an independent candidate. Yes, is true, he came from United Democratic Party but his position at that time he cannot support us,” he claimed.
